Eid celebrations across Uganda were largely peaceful, with only a few isolated incidents reported, according to Deputy Police Spokesperson Diana Nandawula.
Speaking on the security situation, Nandawula noted that festivities proceeded calmly in most parts of the country, with security agencies maintaining vigilance throughout the period.
However, in Goma Division, Mukono District, suspected robbers attacked a resident and stole 5.5 million shillings, seven mobile phones, and a laptop.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and expressed confidence that arrests will be made promptly. No injuries were reported during the incident.
In a separate development, four people were injured when an unidentified metallic object exploded as scrap collectors were offloading materials.
Preliminary reports indicate the object fell before detonating, causing panic among those nearby. All the injured individuals are receiving treatment, and no fatalities were recorded.
The incident follows a similar explosion in Mbale City that left a scrap collector and several bystanders injured, highlighting ongoing risks in scrap handling.
Police have issued a public safety advisory urging scrap dealers and collectors to exercise extreme caution when handling unfamiliar metallic objects.
Nandawula emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious items to security agencies for proper assessment.
The police bomb squad has taken over investigations to determine the nature and origin of the explosive material, as efforts intensify to prevent further occurrences.
Despite ongoing operations aimed at curbing crime and enhancing public safety, concerns persist over incidents of insecurity in various areas.
Authorities stress that efforts are ongoing, but the recent cases highlight the need for sustained vigilance and stronger measures to fully restore public confidence.
